Where to photograph?
This is an aerial photo of Faro airport, where you can see the best places to take photos / spotting. If you're at the airport or driving from Faro city or from road EN125 just take Faro Beach direction (yellow line), after passing under the flight path for runway 10 turn left to a secondary sand road, that's the road where are the 5 spots described below.
1 - Good when runway 10 is in use, perfect side profile photos when planes are ligned up to take off, ladder recommended. Also possible shots in the air, when planes are about to land on runway 10. Usually runway 10 is used in the mornings until the wind change to SW.

2 - This place is good in the afternoon until sunset, when runway 28 is in use. From here you can photograph when aircrafts leave the runway via taxiway Delta (slightly to the right of this position). Bad luck if planes go to the end of the runway but they still pass very slow in front of you. Ladder recommended.
3 - Good for rotation photos when traffic is departing from runway 28 or landing shots when runway 10 is in use. Ladder is necessary.
4 - The most famous place, called "montinho" by local spotters. Good for everything, but the light can be poor after 18h in mid Summer because the sun is too much to the West after that hour. With a great view of the airport this place has been the meeting point for all the plane spotters, no ladder needed.
100-300mm lens is recommended but when at point 1 and if shooting a 747 it's better to have a shorter lens. Be advised that in Summer the light becomes not so good after 18h except in the spot nº2 and only if traffic leaves the runway via taxiway Delta.
5 - This spot can't be accessed by car, only walking but it's just a 300m distance. Nice landing shots on runway 28 are possible and also a good place when planes are ligned up for take off on this runway. No ladder needed.
